Sussex Branch Trail Study & Ten Bridge Designs
As part of a joint effort between the New Jersey Department of Transportation and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, a study was commissioned to develop a 20-mile section of an abandoned rail line into a recreational trail.AmerCom was contracted to provide engineering services for rehabilitations of the trail and to design nine missing superstructures along the rail line.The trail follows an abandoned 20-mile route of the Sussex Branch of the Erie Lackawanna Railroad through Sussex County, New Jersey.Work included geotechnical engineering as well as civil and structural design services. The bridges were designed utilizing precast concrete beams with rustic facades to reflect the historic nature of the area.
